Parent and Carer Information

We would like to warmly welcome you to Shelf Junior and Infant School. In this website, we have tried to give you as much information as we can about our school, the people connected with us, our organisation and about your child’s daily routines. We hope you find it helpful.

At the centre of all that is done in school, are the needs and experiences of each individual child. We want every child to be happy and to achieve success, to feel secure within a creative, caring and supportive environment. We want our pupils to become increasingly confident and independent learners. At Shelf Junior and Infant School, we aim to realise the full potential of each individual and to prepare all pupils to live confident, independent lives. Our emphasis is on the quality of teaching and learningWe provide a broad, balanced and imaginative curriculum which enables each child to develop knowledge, skills and understanding and develop positive, caring attitudes. We have high expectations of the children in all areas of school life and individual development.

We value building a close working relationship with parents and carers, and believe it is important to build effective partnerships to support our children throughout their years in primary school. The active partnership of the governors, staff, parents and children is central to the continuing development of our school; all are valued members of our community.

Everyone in our school places great emphasis on creating a positive learning environment. We want our children to know that they are cared for, that their happiness and successes are important and valued. We would like each child to come to school each day eager to learn, enthusiastic and excited, ready for the challenge to work hard, have fun, make friends and do their best.

We are extremely proud of Shelf Junior and Infant School, its aims and values and the achievements of our pupils. We warmly invite you to visit our friendly school, to meet the staff and to talk about the needs of your child.

Yours sincerely,

Siân Fenton (Mrs)
Head teacher

Parents are welcomed into school to help on a voluntary basis. Many parents actively help teachers throughout the school offering a wide range of skills. Some parents come in on a regular basis and others come to help with specific activities e.g. school trips. We are very grateful for all help. In line with government policy, all helpers are asked to fill in a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure application form.

We also offer informal Coffee Mornings at least once a term, an opportunity for parents and carers to discuss any general issues or share ideas about school.
