Pupil Premium

Please note our Pupil Premium Strategy is reviewed at least annually. The date of our next reviews are: November 2017, January 2018, March 2018.

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement.  These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the local authority, adopted or in special guardianship, and children of armed service personnel.  The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment.

The main barriers to educational achievement include:

  • attendance and lateness
  • emotional well-being
  • support and ambition
  • gaps in learning
We aim to address these barriers through our strategies.

Principles

  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils.
  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups; this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.
  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being in need of intervention and support.
  • Pupil Premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.

We regularly review the impact of the measures listed to ensure they represent both value for money and have played a direct role in improving the achievement of students of all abilities.
