The Paradise Garden by Colin Thompson

This mysterious book is about a boy, called Peter, who ran away from home… yet told his mum a different story.

With noise going off around the clock, Peter had decided to leave. Trading his home for happiness, he travelled to a place which was like a paradise to him. Even his mother wouldn’t miss him, as he had planned his escape so no one would. His paradise had a variety of trees, plants and flowers. In the garden he collected many things, such as a gold ring, a red balloon and pocketfuls of seeds. Peter decided to return home after many days in the paradise garden. In the yard behind his house, he planted all the seeds that he had collected.

This book left me feeling glad for this boy, who had left his home for a paradise, returned and made his own. I would also recommend: Castles, The Bicycle and One Big Happy Family, all by the same author: Colin Thompson. An excellent book for confident readers and ages 7+.
