Attendance

Illness/Appointments

If your child is unwell and unable to attend, please contact school on 01274 676782 before 09:00 on the first day of absence. Please advise school of any further days absence in the same manner.

Requests for Holidays/Time off for Pupils

Please note that all requests for pupils to be absent from school must be on a request form (available from the school’s office or online below). Absences for weddings will only be authorised for members of the immediate family eg parents or siblings. Please be aware that the Local Authority does charge parents and carers for unauthorised absences (including  absences which are less than 10 days) and will look at previous years’ attendance records, especially if an unauthorised absence has been taken.

First Day Contact Procedures

In the case of not hearing why a child is absent, school will follow the procedures below to ensure that the child is safe.

  1. Class registers taken and returned to the school office by 9.00am.
  2. Late children checked against registers by Office staff.
  3. First day phone call to the first name on the contact list by 9.30am asking for response and leaving a message as such on any answer phone that is available.
  4. Ring down the contact list until a reply is received, ensuring where possible that someone from outside of the family home has been contacted.
  5. Alert Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) if first contact can’t be reached.
  6. Phone calls recorded on child’s records on CPOMS record.
  7. Home visit made by 2 members of staff including DSL/SLT member.
  8. If no response at home then first day calling notification letter will be posted through the letter box with a time limit of 11.00am to contact school.
  9. DSL to contact Police if all of the above strategies have been completed and there is still no contact regarding the absent child by 11.00am. This should be done using the 101 number.

Most families let us know why their child is absent.  Please continue to do this by calling the school office and leaving a message on the absence line.

Thank you
