If your child has to remain off school due to Coronavirus, we will endeavour to share as much of the normal school activities as possible during the time they are off. Teachers have adapted their planning to allow for this and are spending time in class modelling and teaching children how to access online learning platforms to ensure they are ready if it is needed.
We know that there are different reasons for the need for remote learning.
- Individual children at home due to illness or self-isolation with the rest of the class in school.
- Whole bubble closure where both children and their teacher are at home.
- School closure where both children and their teacher are at home.
- Bubble or school closure but where the teacher is ill.
Different scenarios will require different measures.

Every child has had a password sheet sent home with all details to log in to the platforms we will be using. Teachers have dedicated lessons to teach children how to access all of these resources themselves.

Remote Learning Platforms
Seesaw
During school closures earlier this year, there was an overwhelmingly positive approach to using Seesaw with children across school to facilitate remote learning. We will continue to use this throughout the year.
- EYFS & KS1 (Reception, Years 1 & 2): Children should log in using their Home Learning Code (on password sheets that have been sent home). Children can use the Seesaw CLASS app on a mobile device or log in online at web.seesaw.me
- KS2 (Years 3-6): Children should log in using their Google Account (on password sheets that have been sent home). Children can use the Seesaw CLASS app on a mobile device or log in online at web.seesaw.me
Please note, on the app, once you have pressed ‘Google/Email sign in’, do not type the email in immediately, instead you MUST PRESS ‘Sign in with Google’ at the top of the screen.
- Parents/Carers: families should use the Seesaw FAMILY app on a mobile device or log in online at web.seesaw.me
(please note the FAMILY app is a DIFFERENT app to the CLASS app for children)
Seesaw will be used to set activities for children in all year groups both in and out of school. It can also be used for families/children to share anything they have done at home. . We are spending time showing children how to use Seesaw so it should be familiar to them when they use it at home. Seesaw will be the main way that teachers set work for children in Reception and KS1
Google Classroom
Although we love Seesaw, teachers found there were some limitations for the type of activities that children could complete there, so we are also introducing Google Classroom to all children, but will particularly focus on using it with children in Key Stage 2.
- All children: You can download the ‘Google Classroom’ app on mobile devices or go to www.classroom.google.com on the internet. Log in using their Google account details – on password sheet that has been sent home.
- Parents/Carers: there is no specific access for families. For parents/carers to access Google Classroom, they should log in to their child’s account in the same way as the child.
Google Classroom allows children to complete work using a wide range of apps including all of Google’s word processing and presentation tools. To use some apps (such as Google Docs) on mobile devices, you do need to install them. Google Classroom will be the main way that teachers set work for children in Key Stage 2 (although this will include links to Seesaw activities and some of the other apps below)
Setting work:
Work will be set on Seesaw (EYs and KS1) or Google Classroom (KS2) by 9.30am.
There is an expectation that the daily minimum requirements each class teacher will set for their class is:
- An English lesson
- A Maths lesson
- One curriculum subject lesson- this may use Oak Academy lessons to support foundation subjects such as Art, Science and Geography.
- Teachers will not deliver ‘live’ lessons.
Providing feedback on work:
Work will be uploaded by the children to the appropriate platform during the school day. Work must be uploaded by 3.30pm to enable class teachers to mark along with their class work. If work is uploaded after this time, we cannot guarantee that it will be marked.
Work will be marked and feedback given although this will differ depending on the circumstances.
- If teachers are working from home due to bubble closure or school closure then marking will be detailed and thorough in line with the school feedback policy.
- If teachers are working in school but are setting work for individual children who are isolating or ill, then marking will be less detailed and will only be completed at the end of the school day.
- If a teacher is poorly, we cannot guarantee that it will be marked.
Teachers will provide feedback in line with the school feedback policy;
Teachers will identify that there are errors and expect the children to find and correct them;
Teachers will ask the children to improve a piece of work and return the work to children;

Support
We understand that remote learning is not always easy, and often internet connections and availability of devices can make it a real challenge. We will be adding help sheets and videos to this page on our website to offer advice to help with common issues for different platforms.
If children are off school and require support with learning, please use Seesaw and Google Classroom to communicate with class teachers who will offer support when they are available.
